Standard 1: Accesses information efficiently and effectively
- Utilize the library/media center to explore and experience print and electronic materials for pleasure or curricular requirements: Access reference materials: dictionary, thesaurus, almanac, atlas, encyclopedia.
- Utilize the library catalog and electronic resources: Utilize the keyword and subject search in the catalog and available electronic resources.
Standard 2: Evaluates information critically and competently
- Respond to literature: Determine the influence of setting on plot or characters.
- Analyze the information (thinks about the story/information and asks questions about what he/she doesn’t understand): Identify the point of view. Understand characterization by speech and language.
Standard 3: Organizes information
- Identify the parts of a book: Identify the preface, foreword, afterword, and acknowledgements.
- Compile research information: Create a simple outline of research information.
Standard 4: Uses information effectively and creatively
- Select and utilize appropriate library and research skills: Select and use appropriate library reference materials: atlas, almanac, encyclopedia, thesaurus, and dictionary.
- Assembles information: Create a bibliography of resources.
